Salt, when pressed into various shapes, serves many useful purposes.  Powerful hydraulic or rotary presses at our Watkins Glen Refinery keep busy the year round turning pure evaporated salt into several pressed salt products.

nLargest of the pressed salt products are the 50 pound blocks of salt that are usually placed on posts in pastures.  Cows consume these blocks to supplement the salt they receive in their feed.  These salt blocks are also used in commercial refrigeration plants and in water softening units.

nPressed into pellets, the small ovals of pure salt are used to regenerate home water softeners.
